Mauboussin: when luxury is accessible to all

The House of Mauboussin is a French jewelry company founded in the 19th century. It is undoubtedly one of the oldest jewelry houses in France. From its beginnings until today, the brand's jewelry has made many people dream, especially women. Let's look back at the history of this internationally renowned brandVery quickly, the excellence and refinement of their creations made this brand one of the greatest jewelers. Mauboussin innovates and becomes a specialist in colors. Nothing ostentatious or flashy, the French brand prefers to highlight craftsmanship and materials. Nowadays, Mauboussin is the equivalent of Tiffany in the United States. It is one of the most admirable jewelry stores in Paris, Place Vendôme, a prestigious location in the heart of French luxury.

The beginnings of Mauboussin

Before being called Mauboussin, this famous house was named "la maison Noury". Created in 1827, it only became a true luxury jewelry brand in 1898 and took the name of one of its creators, Georges Mauboussin. After starting as an apprentice, he became the exclusive owner of the brand. In 1923, the boutique carried out expansion projects and moved to the Opera district.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, it developed an Art Deco style and conquered a clientele of wealthy Parisians. This period marks the beginning of success for the jewelry house. It notably received numerous awards during the 1920s, creating jewelry that blended tradition and modernity. In 1928, the house saw its ascent go even further by expanding internationally.

Mauboussin's modern jewelry gained notoriety by seducing an increasingly refined clientele, particularly in the Middle East. After World War II, the jewelry house turned to much more fanciful jewelry, and even created an entire series of it. In 1970, it surprised its audience again by combining ivory or even wood with gold or platinum.

Mauboussin and its jewelry for everyone The Mauboussin house experienced a crisis during 1998. A blow for the brand, which had to ask for help from an investor to be able to recover. This investor was Dominique Fremont, who ended up becoming the exclusive owner of the house in 2005.

Taking his mission seriously, he found a bold and quite risky solution to recover, but it bore fruit. The solution? The democratization of the brand. A technique aimed at making jewelry accessible to all, by lowering its price, but also by changing the point of sale. To achieve this, the brand managed to think outside the box by manufacturing a large part of their pieces in Asia. However, since 2012, its creations have been relocated to France.

The brand's masterpieces

One of the flagship pieces of the Mauboussin house undoubtedly remains the Nadia ring created in 1980 by Patrick Mauboussin. It's a model that immediately enjoyed enormous success and remained among the best-sellers until the 2000s. Far from being a simple ring, Nadia is an authentic and above all timeless jewel. However, other rings also join it in this highly prized ranking. We can mention among others: Moi Aimer Toi, Chance of Love, Love Ring, or Fou de toi.

The first collection of jewelry manufactured in France is also a must-have of the brand. Thus, the "Tellement sublime mon amour" collection is the first to be classified in the house's high jewelry. It includes six rings, a pair of earrings, a necklace, and a bracelet. It is therefore a very limited series.

Mauboussin perfumes

Far from being content with creating jewelry, the brand also ventures into perfume production in the year 2000. Drawing on its experience in luxury, Mauboussin creates a first eponymous perfume for women. As the company's signature, it reflects the spirit that has reigned supreme since the beginning. Here again, success is achieved, and many women remain loyal to this fragrance. Since then, a range of perfumes for men and women has been born, housed in delicate, harmonious, and highly original jewel-like bottles. All Mauboussin creations carry the brand's common values: luxury, elegance, and delicacy.

Mauboussin l'Original will be the first Mauboussin perfume for women available on the market. It will later be renamed simply "Mauboussin for women". The top notes of this perfume consist of plum, bergamot, and mandarin. The base notes are composed of vanilla, patchouli, sandalwood, and amber, resulting in a fragrance that is both light and floral, as well as spicy and sensual.

This fragrance also has its masculine version. "The Mauboussin perfume for men" was released in 2003 and, like its feminine counterpart, reveals aromas that are both floral and spicy. It combines notes of lavender, rosemary, and bergamot, as well as patchouli, cinnamon, musk, and sandalwood.

The brand also counts among its great successes the Mauboussin Eau de Toilette for women, released in 2001. Additionally, we can mention Histoire d'Eau, a perfume with oriental scents composed notably of pepper, cardamom, nutmeg, amber, and leather. This captivating perfume will suit women with a seductive soul. "Mauboussin Pour Lui", another men's perfume from the brand, exudes notes of lavender, cedar leaves, star anise, absinthe, and ebony. Released in 2012, this seductive perfume is ideal for any modern man.

Brand ambassadors

Mauboussin has had many brand ambassadors, but some of them have stood out from the others. Among them is Caterina Murino, who was chosen to represent the house in 2013. She is notably the face of the Éternité Tendresse collection. Blending both tenderness and passion, the jewelry house couldn't have dreamed of a better choice in entrusting her with the task of brand ambassador. Embodying both gentleness and strength, she perfectly represents the values that the brand conveys through its jewelry.

We can also mention the Ukrainian top model Yuliana Korotkova. Mauboussin called upon her in 2014 to become their muse by representing the Chance of Love ring. Being highly appreciated in the fashion world, with her captivating gaze and quite sensual beauty, the house made the right choice in selecting her.

The brand has also collaborated with men for advertising campaigns promoting their products. We can mention artists like Garou, who represented the men's jewelry collection in 2012. Boxer Jean-Marc-Mormeck is also among the brand's representatives. He was a Mauboussin ambassador in 2014.
